herb abundance

The lilacs are blooming.

When I got out of the car Tuesday night, I could immediately smell them.

When I'm out running/walking I can smell them.

Lilacs mean summer is near.

I bought herbs to plant in pots on our deck again. I'm looking forward to fresh basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, and cilantro.
Here they are, waiting to be planted.
This is not an herb (nope, it's not lavender, although I did buy that). I forgot what it's called. I'll let you know...
This one is a heliotrope.

I also bought woodruff, which is not only a plant but also the last name of my high school drafting teacher. Mr. Woodruff was awesome.

I am thankful for the space on our deck to have potted herbs and I look forward to the abundance of freshness they will bring forth this summer.

all the right smells

I came home from Bible study tonight and when I walked in the door the smell of dinner hit me. Oh, it was good. Trust me (or ask Bill). It was homemade pizza.

Yes, the sauce was homemade.

Yes, the dough was homemade.

It was topped with sausage (not homemade) and mozzarella cheese (also not homemade).

Don't you enjoy it when your favorite smells linger?

Onion and garlic, cooking, are two of my favorite smells.

Also, as I was walking from my car to the house, the smell of lilacs reached my nose. They smell so good right now. You can smell them all the way down at the street (they're near the back corner of our neighbor's house).

lilacs and summer

I was out watering the flowers the other night, and I noticed the big fat bees climbing all over the lilac bush. Do you know which ones I'm talking about? The cute, fuzzy bee. I went inside and grabbed my camera and took a couple of pictures. Unfortunately they didn't turn out because it was breezy, and any time I tried to get close, the bees would take off. So for one specific person, this post is bee picture-free.

The lilac bush is almost done blooming. That means that summer is coming. The nice "spring"-like weather didn't seem to last and we went from nights of frost to 83 degrees. Such is life in Michigan.

Enjoy Memorial Day weekend! We'll be starting out the unofficial start of summer with a cook-out. And there will be ice cream! Homemade as well as a trip to Jersey Junction. Just in case you didn't know that I like ice cream, I scream for ice cream! I could eat it every day! Sometimes I do. Here's to summer, ice cream and cook-outs!
